Amarillo, TX. 79109

The primary purpose of the Railroad Artifact Preservation Society is to protect, restore, preserve, and display AT&SF steam locomotive number 5000. The 5000 was located next to the AT&SF depot in downtown Amarillo Texas. It was placed at this location April 17, 1957.  Railroad Artifact Preservation Society, working with the City of Amarillo and many other organizations and corporations has moved the 5000 to its new location at 2nd and Lincoln in downtown Amarillo.

Restoration work on AT&SF Steam Locomotive No. 5000 (Madam Queen) was completed in August of 2008.  Society members worked on 5000 from 2003-2008 and we have over 1800 volunteer man-hours in the project.  The restoration work was done according to Santa Fe practice as much as possible.

Stairs have been built so that visitors can enter the cab, and the Queen’s Garden in front of the locomotive display provides a beautiful butterfly garden with park benches.  The static display is always open.  If you would like a guided tour please call ahead to 806.674.0472 so arrangements can be made.  RAPS needs at least 2 day advance notice for tours.

It has always been the Societies goal to house 5000 inside a building designed for her needs.  This museum will be called the Santa Fe Locomotive Development Museum.  We need your help to build this museum.
